The most effective way for me is to look on several job boards online then I do my follow up phone call tactic. If I find a posting that is something I want to pursue, then I will edit my resume to customize it specifically for that position. After sending in my resume, I will try to follow up with a phone call to the contact listed. The purpose of this call is just to introduce myself briefly and check if the position is still available. This creates a chance for the recruiter to know more about me if the conversation continues, and this way is sure better than just submitting my resume online which I very sure they receive tons of resumes everyday. Some people might disagree with this method of mine, but it has worked great for me in the past.
